 The Secret of Success - Do The Common Things Uncommonly Well

The owner of a hardware store was looking for a young man to hire. There had been several young men respond to his ad and eventually he narrowed his choice to three. In order to make his decision on which one to hire, he devised a plan, a final test. He gave each young man a new screwdriver set with an innovative design and told them to deliver it to Mr. C. M. Henderson at 314 Maple Street.

After a short time, the first young man called the storeowner and asked if the address was actually 413 rather than 314. He later returned saying there was no house at that address.

When the second applicant came back, he said that 314 Maple was a funeral parlor and that Mr. Henderson had lived at 314-1/2 but had moved away.

The third young man took longer than the other two young men did. He too discovered that Mr. Henderson had indeed moved away, but managed to secure his new address and had gone there. Mr. Henderson didn’t recall ordering the screwdriver, but when the young man pointed out its unique features, told him the price, Mr. Henderson decided he would take the screwdriver, and paid for it on the spot.

Which young man got the job? The third one, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. A leader doesn’t let any obstacle stop him from reaching his goals. Persistence and patience produce payoff.

This must be how you approach your business. You will surely run into problems but remember for every problem there is a solution. You must be the solution, the problem solver. Once you understand this, there will be no obstacle that you can't overcome. Learn to be a problem solver and build your business.
